Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, also known as the Missile Man of India, was a renowned Indian aerospace scientist and the 11th President of India. His life and achievements continue to inspire millions of peoplearound the world.Born and raised in a Muslim family in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, he studied physics and aerospace engineering. He spent the next four decades as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and was intimately involved in India's civilian space programme and military missile development efforts.[1] He thus came to be known as the Missile Man of India for his work on the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology.[2][3][4] He also played a pivotal organisational, technical, and with full state honours.[8]
Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, India. Despite coming from a humble background, he showed great interest in learning, particularly in mathematics and physics.
Dr. Kalam started his career at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and later joined the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He played a pivotal role in India’s civilian space program and military missile development efforts, earning him the nickname 'Missile Man.
In 2002, Dr. Kalam was elected as the 11th President of India, where he served until 2007. He was widely known as the People's President due to his approachable nature and his efforts to connect with the youth of India.
